Downstage, during a
performance of Royal Hunt of The Sun, actors kneel on the
stage and interact in the footlights. Written by Peter Shaffer, it reveals
Pizarro's internal torture after captureing the Peruvian Inca god-chief
Atahualpa. Shaffer also wrote Amadeus which won a Tony Award. for
Best Play. Royal Hunt of the Sun and Amadeus were both turned
into films. His Equus also won a Tony for Best Play. And his Five
Finger Exercise won the Drama Critics Award.
